Race track is perfect
Many of our racers would have seen enjoyed the new upgrade of our race track at last year’s event. Well, the council has now finished our track with new kerb and gutters and line markers along the road.
Gone is the dangerous road filled with pot holes and rough edges. This has been replaced with a new flat surface for the length of the track, which is great for the organisers and more importantly for the drivers.
We are looking forward to a great year with many exciting events planned. Watch our website and facebook for all of the latest information.

A book just for you
Hey kids, this year we will have another special event just for you.
Newcastle author Katrina McKelvey and her illustrator Kirrili Lonergan will be making a special appearance at this year’s event launching her brand new book Up To Something.
She will be doing readings throughout the day while her illustrator Kirrili will be teaching the kids how to draw the characters from the book. Each session with the reading and illustration will take approximately one hour.
During each session, Katrina will read their new book, have a chat with the kids about billy carts, maybe sing a song, and then Kirrili can do some illustrating based on something from the book (either one of the characters or a billy cart). You will be the first to buy the book as it will not be officially released until after the Derby.
The readings will take place in the Gresford Bowling Club’s car park.
A blast from the past
Remember when all billy carts looked like this? Even now they don’t have to be elaborate, they can be very basic but have to be a lot of fun. These kids have got the right mixture, basic, fun, skinned knees, elbows and toes. How good were those days?
The next best thing is at Gresford Billy Cart Derby on Easter Saturday in Park Street, East Gresford from 9am. For specifications and safety requirements go to http://www.gresfordbillycartderby.com.au
It’s not too late to build one now to enjoy racing down the main swtreet of East Gresford cheered on by thousands of spectators. Time to hit the shed!
Miners shape up
It’s on again this year at the Gresford Billy Cart Derby, the battle of the mines – billy cart style!
Again this year Glencore Ravensworth is the major sponsor of the Gresford Billy Cart Derby and Easter Fair and once again the inter-mine race will be a highlight of the day. Last year’s racers were truly works of art and no doubt the talented workforce that can keep off-highway trucks and continuous miners on the go can lend themselves to delivering some great billy carts.
Organisers this year expect the inter-mine race to be bigger and better than ever. There’s even a special perpetual trophy up for grabs by the winning entry. In addition the Glencore Ravensworth entries are sure to give the rest of the billy cart line up a run for their money. And we know all entries will be competing for bragging rights down the hill and also the trophies for the best turned out cart and best dressed team.
Don’t miss all the fun of the Gresford Billy Cart Derby and Easter Fair. See you trackside from 8.30 on Easter Saturday.
