The 2019 Gresford Billy Cart Derby and Easter Fair celebrates its 20th year and promises to be an exciting and fun filled day for all the family.
Our major sponsors Glencore and the Beatty Hotel at East Gresford are back supporting the Derby again this year. We have had to invest a lot of money this year to upgrade our track barricading , crowd control barriers ensuring the safety of our competitors and spectators and without their help we would not have been able to do this. We have many other great sponsors and again with their help and support this year will be one of the biggest and best derby’s ever.
Our monster raffle leads the way again this year as our major fund raiser on the day. We have 3 first prizes to choose from. We have the Maitland 4X4 Accessories package with some great Ironman accessories for your 4 wheeled drive. We have the Oilman and Good Guys home Home Package and the Farmers Warehouse Package all three prizes are valued at approximately $600 each. You can take your choice of any one of the three if you win, second has a choice of two and third has the remaining prize. Go to our website and facebook to see the full list of prizes – http://www.gresfordbillycartderby.com.au
Apart from our great billy cart racing which we will be offering a prize for the best presented 20th anniversary theme for the cart and driver, spectators are encouraged to turn up in their 90’s clothes as well. You know those clothes you have never thrown out and thought one day you may just wear them again, well now is the time – let’s hope they still fit.
Our Civcon Water Solutions Dummy Spitting competition is on again this year with some great cash prizes donated by Civcon. Try your hand at the gumboot throwing have a bet on the Pony Pat Lotto, back a dog on the vintage windup racing machine and while you are there get a photo of the kids sitting in one of the vintage billy carts supplied by the Gresford Historical Society, don’t miss the jumping castle, slippery slide, tons of market stalls and great food. Make sure you get the best steak sanga from our local Gresford RFS volunteers who always do a great job. Watch the grudge race between Hunter Life Education’s Healthy Harold and our own Easter Bunny. They each have a race win and this year will be the decider to see who is the fastest down the main street of East Gresford. The Amazing Jonathan returns again this year and he will be racing our very own Gresford Show girl, so make sure you are there to cheer your favourite on.
We have organised a special book release with the author Katrina McKelvey (www.katrinamckelvey.com) doing readings of her new (not released yet) book with Kirrili Lonergan – illustrator (www.kirrililonergan.com) showing kids how to draw the books characters. The book is called “Up to something” it’s about a little boy and his dad building a billy cart. Perfect for the Gresford Billy Cart Derby. We are excited to have them along for the kids enjoyment. Readings and illustrations are on every hour.
Our pet Llamas will be back all dressed up to meet and greet as they walk around the market stalls, this is another great photo opportunity. Make sure you hang around for the great auction at the end of the day on the veranda of the Beatty Hotel then just sit and relax with great live music into the evening. Don’t forget the Dungog Rodeo later in the day.
It’s still not too late to build yourself a billy cart, they don’t have to be flash but they do need to be safe, visit our website and check out all of the safety and construction specifications. We will look forward to seeing everyone there.
We are always looking for additional help to run this event so if you are interested please contact Graham Murphy on 0416 116 009.
Healthy Harold and the Easter Bunny are ready for this year’s race off.
